The garden is a perfect complement to the nutrition curriculum taught in the classroom. Students come into the garden and raise their own food. As a result, Willard students not only eat vegetables; they like and enjoy vegetables. Willard has a wonderful garden.

Our garden is a serious garden. The food is for eating. The food is also for sale at farmers markets, for donations to homeless, and for the kitchens of our fine neighborhood restaurants such as Mazzini's Trattoria.

The greening project has collaborated with Bay Area Youth Consortium, Americacorp, and the Food Policy Advisory Committee for Berkeley Community Gardening Services. We also emphasize the four R's to demonstrate the cycles of life, and how we humans can more graciously live with our beautiful planet earth.
